This picture has been doing the rounds on social media the past few days. It's purported to be a notice being given to New Jersey Fire and Emergency personnel about contract with any drones which may crash during the "drone invasion" happening now.
It very clearly states the potential for hazardous materials on board and the need for a safe perimeter and appropriate safety gear. One obvious assumption is that these drones may be armed, and that's possible. The other is that they are using exotic fuel systems as we will explore below.
Did you know the US has had nuclear powered drones since Project Aquiline in the 1960's? Thats right, over 50 years ago bird shaped drones were being tested by the CIA at Area 51 (yes, really). These drones were being outfitted with radioisotope fuel systems that could increase their range from 2,400 nautical miles to 36,000 nautical miles (over 41,000 conventional miles).
As a point of reference, the distance around the Earth is approximately 25,000 miles which means these little fuckers could fly one and a half times around the Earth in one go. One can only speculate about how far they have advanced this technology since then and what they may have flying around these days.
Now, wouldn't that be something the little fed boys would want to keep secret?
